Orlando Gibbons is the most famous of his musical family, with his father and three brothers also being musicians. Our evening will trace his life through his works, up until his untimely death at the age of 41, which we commemorate this year.
From Gibbons’ sacred repertoire, our programme includes the two great anthems Hosanna to the Son of David and This is the Record of John, as well as the Magnificat from the Short Service and the ever-popular O clap your hands. We will also perform some of his madrigals, such as The Silver Swan and What is Our Life?, set to text by Sir Walter Raleigh.
Chandos is delighted to collaborate with the renowned Chelys Consort of Viols to present this exquisite music.
Join us on Thursday 10 July for a perfect summer evening’s entertainment.
