Book now for Chandos' summer concert
Bring your own picnic for the perfect summer experience on Sunday 5 July
We can't wait to welcome you for a concert of two halves: a selection of sacred music ranging from Byrd to Gjeilo, followed by a lighter set of secular pieces spanning a range of genres from madrigals through to spirituals and jazz. Book here to reserve your place at Christ Church, Southwark and please note the earlier start time of 4.30pm.
The first half of our concert comprises a selection of unaccompanied sacred music. This half of the programme will include well-known pieces such as William Byrd’s Ave Verum Corpus and William Harris’ Faire is the Heaven, and also works by contemporary composers such as Arvo Pärt’s The Deer’s Cry and Ola Gjeilo’s Prelude Exsultate Jubilate. A highlight is Bob Chilcott’s My Prayer, one of a number of modern works inspired by seventeenth-century composer Henry Purcell’s well-known piece Hear My Prayer.
Between the two halves of the concert we hope you will join us for a picnic in the beautiful grounds of Christ Church. Bring your own picnic to enjoy what we hope will be a splendid summer afternoon (wet weather alternative available).
The second half of our concert will be a relaxed set of summer-themed songs, starting with an arrangement of Irving Berlin’s Blue Skies, and featuring madrigals, folk songs and a spiritual by a range of composers from Thomas Weelkes and Thomas Morley through to Rosephanye Powell.
